Every field trip includes the following programs:
People of the Plantation
Primary Documents are a road map to the past. Students will learn how the stories of the enslaved African Americans on the Davis Plantation were discovered through research at the county archives and through an archaeological dig.
Students will have an in-depth look at the life of a Civil War soldier in our Under the Gun program. Though a hands on experience, students will travel back to the Civil War and have the chance to see and touch what life would have been for a soldier on the battlefield and in camp.
Plants of the Past
Students will learn about the plants that the Davis family grew on their farm. They will learn about the biology of the farm from seed to plant. They will analyze primary documents to determine the types of plants that were most profitable and discuss why Mr. Davis grew what he grew, taking into account geography and soil quality. Students will also get the chance to de-seed and hand card cotton.
