The Science of History camp will take a look at what goes on behind the ropes. Campers will learn how to handle artifacts. They will learn about the chemistry of cleaning artifacts and what precautions need to be taken to properly store them. They will also create an exhibit from beginning to end, which will be displayed in the museum.
Campers will delve into the art of storytelling and giving tours and the different methods of interpreting the history. Your child will learn what it takes to interpret the past for today’s audience. They will also learn about museums of the past and Cabinets of Curiosity. It will be a week of learning and exploring the historic property and the artifacts at the Historic Sam Davis Home.
For the month of October, leading up to Halloween and in observance of Sam Davis' birth (Oct. 6, 1842), The Historic Sam Davis Home & Plantation staff observe "a period of mourning" complete with special affects throughout the historic dwelling.
Ghost Tours are available for all ages!
The lantern-lit tours include a hayride, a tour of the grounds, and historic home. Each guest will have a lantern at the beginning of their journey to help guide them through the eerie darkness of the site. Guests will also hear stories from the ghosts themselves, but be careful! There are some weeping wanderers who may sneak up on you in need of a shoulder to cry on.
