SDMA Board Recieves Grant from State of Tennessee

Senator Bill Ketron and Representative Mike Sparks presented a grant in the sum of $9,300 to the Historic Sam Davis Home Thursday, November 12 to be used for the restoration of several historic structure roofs.

Director Debbie Shaw accepted the check on the site’s behalf.

“We are so thankful for the State of Tennessee’s support in our endeavors to restore and maintain this vital piece of Tennessee History,” Shaw said.

“We’ve been very fortunate to have had constant and unfaltering support from the city of Smyrna, Rutherford County, and the State of Tennessee,” she continued.

“Without their support, the Historic Sam Davis Home would not be able to provide the educational programs, community events, or continue to support new endeavors such as our recently opened arboretum.”

Construction on the new cedar shakes roofs is set to begin in spring of 2016. This grant combined with the Christy Houston grant received in 2014 will make a large impact toward saving the historic structures of the site.
